You could talk more about Tommy written as a fourteen year old girl?
And that I will.
( In which I explain why I can't handle another fic where Tommy acts like a fourteen year old girl whose worried because she looked at another girl's breasts in gym class )
One of the best characterizations of Tommy I've seen so far, incidentally, was
Join me next time, when I tell you my thoughts on the issue of writing a gay-identifying man versus what we usually do (slash straight-identifying men). Or, ASK ME MORE QUESTIONS and I will tell you no lies!

First of all,
revid asked me:
What and why exactly is it the way that so many writer's characterize Adam make you tear your hair out? Do you think that they don't get him because they don't understand him? Or do you think they write him how they want him to be to fit into their story? Why does almost everyone write from a Kris POV, anyway?
HOLD ON TIGHT BECAUSE I WILL BE HERE A WHILE.
( ADAM IS NOT: an emo kid, Pete Wentz, a sadist, or self-loathing. Also, a side-trek into why Katy/Kris/Adam doesn't usually work for me. )
So, with ALL OF THIS SAID....the reason people write from Kris's POV is because Adam is fucking difficult. Ha.
Next up, my thoughts on Tommy characterization. \o/ ASK ME MY OPINION ON SOMETHING, GUYS! I never meta anymore. This is fun.

Ask me about my unpopular fandom opinion, and I shall spew forth some vitriol for you. Or, you know, express an opinion. Depends how I'm feeling, really.
(Feel free to be specific.)
Nah, it won't go badly. I actually don't have very many in my current fandom!! I'm pretty content. *g*

Sherlock Holmes is a delightful romantic comedy. The best part was that the people who made the movie KNEW THIS AND CLEARLY EMBRACED IT - NAY, WERE GOING FOR IT.
BEST ROM COM EVER. Also there was some intrigue and explosions or some shit I don't know.

Happy Holidays everyone!

And even if you don't celebrate, I hope you have a spiffy day. ♥
Today I saw Princess and the Frog -- because princess movie, yes I am and will remain perpetually six when Disney animated movies are involved. I enjoyed it! \o/ It was nowhere near as ridiculous as I thought it would be, and, in fact, was quite charming and well-done. While it did not correct every issue inherent in the Princess Movie Trope, I did appreciate that it tried to do so, with varying levels of success. My two favorite nods to this end: ( This is probably too mild to even be a spoiler, but... )
My primary complaint is the same complaint I've seen from everyone: the music is just boring as hell. I think I understand what the logic was in having Randy Newman do the music -- I would imagine they were hoping it would be something along the lines of the Tim Rice/Elton John collaboration on Lion King, and figured since he grew up in New Orleans, Newman was perfect to capture the 'spirit' of the setting. But it fell pretty flat. I felt like I was hearing Randy Newman's music shoehorned into an animated movie, rather than a soundtrack for that animated movie, if I can make that distinction. I've always felt like Disney movies are only as good as their love songs and the villain number, and "Friends on the Other Side" was only 'meh' (though the visuals were fun); I cannot even remember if there was a love song. I think in general there is just something about the idea of musical that is all wrong for Newman's style -- because the stuff he does with Pixar is great ("Strange Things" and "I Will Go Sailing No More" from Toy Story still make me a little sniffly), but that's an entirely different medium, of background soundtrack versus plot linchpin.
All in all, it was definitely fun and I recommend it. I have been pee-myself excited since hearing about this film, over the idea that Disney might commit to returning to 2D animation -- and apparently they are, as "The Snow Queen" is slated for 2012 (with Alan Menkin doing the music! \o/). But yes.
Continuing in a completley different direction, here are things everyone and their great aunt home for the holidays has already seen, but are nonetheless charming me indefinitely.

You guys, I love that Adam has apparently taken Tommy in permanently under some sort of Adopt a Straight Boy program. Apparently joining Adam's band is not a job -- it is a life choice. I approve of this so hard you don't even know. I love that I cannot even tell whose limbs are whose in that last picture. And I love how pretty and tiny and delicate Tommy looks, especially in comparison to Adam. They are a glorious visual contrast and it makes them a joy to look at.
I want so much fic where they are on tour, doing the stage gay thing and being in close quarters and Adam hauling Tommy around (because he's arm candy and they click and Adam has so much to teach him, okay?) and Tommy gradually becoming more and more actually attracted to Adam, except they're making out on stage so much and Adam's got absolutely no physical boundaries off-stage and that's all professional, so how the fuck does Tommy explain no, actually, he's kind of for-real getting off on this now? I want to write the story where the stage gay and the pet bassist thing is a hinderance to any actual relationship rather than the catalyst. And I want to write it where nobody is a fifteen year old girl.
